Fall/Winter 2024

In spring of this year, 2024, Jim and I had the privilege of traveling to southern Spain to visit the Cosentino countertop factory. Cosentino are known worldwide for their innovation, creativity and being a leader in finding green solutions for countertops, the reason we love working with their product so much. While we were there we visited a number of facilities from the Dekton plant to the natural granite storage facilty, from the spaces they create the designs and patterns of their tops to the quarries they use to provide the factory with material.

Cosentino provide a few different lines of countertops. As a standard they have their quartz tops, Siletone, with outstanding colours. They also have a cutting edge top named Dekton that is scratch and stain resistant as well as being heat proof for putting your hot pots right on top. And then the quality array of granite tops, Sensa, that get sourced from around the world with some of the most amazing natural patterns and sealed when leaving the plant.

On our trip we were allowed to see the process, from start to finish, for the manufacturing of Dekton. While having to watch your step so as not to get knocked over by an autonomous cart, the entire system was so jaw droppingly smooth and precise it certainly gave a good visual of the robotic future in manufacturing. We also took a trip to a warehouse where all the slabs of Sena were stored. Each slab completely different and unique to it’s own face. What made this so amazing to see was the incredible colours found in natural stones. Some of them bright purple hues, others pebble rock formations or greens as bright as grass, right to the slabs that are the eptiomy of a classic marble or jet blacks.

There are a few reasons we enjoy using Consentino products so much, but a big one for us is due to their never ending strive for a greener solution with what they produce. From their 2023 report, their carbon footprint was down 10% over 5 years. While we were there they mentioned the enormous amount of water they use in the day to day operation while using 100% certified renewable electricity and 99% recycled water. Through all this they’re always looking to add more recycled material where possible and minimise any possible health risks associated with the final product.
